Cover starts
Your cover activates after a 48-hour commencement period, standard for the industry.
Call if you need it
Break down anywhere in Australia, day or night. One call and the dispatcher sorts you out.
Cover with a workshop behind it.
Break Check isn't a call centre. We're a licensed mechanical workshop in Elderslie, NSW. MVRL64052 and AIS S11534 authorised, servicing cars, running pink slips, and inspecting vehicles pre-purchase. Roadside is one more way we look after our customers.
We chose 24/7 Roadservices Australia as our roadside partner because they're an Australian-based team, on the phones day and night, backed by a nationwide breakdown network. Sign up direct with Break Check. If you ever have a question about your cover, or want work done afterwards, you're talking to a real person at a real workshop.
Good to know before you sign up.
When does my cover actually start?
There's a 48-hour waiting period from when you sign up before cover kicks in. This is standard across the industry, and it's there to stop people signing up mid-breakdown. If you do run into trouble in that first two days, still give 24/7 Roadservices a call. Depending on the situation they can often help you out on a one-off basis.
Can I cover more than one car?
Yes, add as many as you like. Every car on your account gets the same cover it would if it were your only one. You can add more cars any time from your online account, and each one runs on its own yearly cycle from the day you added it.
What happens at renewal?
Your cover renews automatically each year. About a month out we'll email you with the amount coming up, and again as the date gets closer, so nothing sneaks up on you. Your card on file is charged on the day and we send a receipt. You can cancel any time from your online account.
Is my hire car or borrowed car covered?
Cover is tied to the cars you've listed on your account, not to you as a driver. If you regularly drive a hire car or a work vehicle, add it to your account and it's covered. Casually borrowed cars aren't covered unless they're on your list.
Who actually comes out when I call?
24/7 Roadservices Australia. They run the national dispatch line and the network of local contractors who turn up to your breakdown. Break Check is their authorised agent, so we sell the cover and we're the local face of it. If you need repairs after the tow, we're right here in Elderslie.
What if the mechanic can't fix my car?
If your car is towed to a workshop and they can't sort the problem, a second tow away from that workshop generally isn't covered. The membership covers getting you off the road and somewhere safe, not moving the car again afterwards. The exception is when the first tow wasn't arranged through 24/7 Roadservices, in which case a tow from there is treated as a normal callout.
Worth knowing: if your car ends up at Break Check in Elderslie, you're dealing with us directly and we'll talk you through what's wrong and what your options are before anything else happens.
What if I need something my plan doesn't cover?
24/7 Roadservices can still arrange it, you just pay for that service yourself. Lockouts are the common example: they're included on 5 Star but not on 3 Star, so a 3 Star member who locks their keys in the car can still get someone out, but they'll be asked for payment upfront before the job goes ahead.
If you're weighing up the two plans, this is the practical difference. 5 Star covers more situations without you reaching for your card.
Does it matter what I tell them on the phone?
Yes, and it's worth being accurate. If you tell the dispatcher you have a usable spare tyre and the technician arrives to find you don't, that job can't be completed and any follow-up callout is at your cost. Same goes for anything else about the situation.
Nobody minds if you're not sure. Say you're not sure and they'll send someone equipped for either case. The problem only comes from a confident answer that turns out to be wrong.
What about caravans, motorbikes, or motorhomes?
Not yet. For now we only sell cover for cars up to 3.5 tonnes and 5.5 metres long. If you need cover for a caravan, motorbike, motorhome, or mobility scooter, 24/7 Roadservices Australia can arrange that for you directly.
